Zero emissions

A better paint for you
and the environment

Usually, when talking about paints, zero emissions are emissions which are harmful to the climate - but we have taken into account both atmospheric and indoor air emissions when developing Milieu paints. Our paint reduces the exposure of both people and the environment to hazardous chemicals and preservatives.

A paint that suits everyone

Milieu paints are allergen-free, preservative-free and odourless. They have been developed together with the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation and have been awarded the Allergy Label by the Federation.

“Milieu is an exceptional interior paint. It doesn’t contain any harmful preservatives, and its emission levels are extremely low. Milieu also meets the allergy criteria by a far margin. We believe that Milieu sets a new standard for the whole industry what comes to developing safer and more environmentally friendly paints.”

– Niki Malmros from the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation

To get the allergy label, the emissions from the paints must be minimised. It also must not contain irritants that can cause allergic symptoms. In addition, to qualify for the label, odour emissions must dissipate within three days of painting. Milieu meets the allergy criteria by a far margin. The Milieu paints have also been awarded the M1-certificate.

The paint's odourless and low emission properties are important not only for people with severe allergies and asthma, but for the majority of people. It is, for example, particularly important for people suffering from allergic rhinitis and for families with children not to be exposed to excess emissions when painting the home.

Exceptionally low emissions

Milieu paint is also classified as Zero VOC and no harmful preservatives have been used. VOC emissions are harmful to both health and the environment and are typically high in paints. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the amount of VOC emissions when choosing a paint.

VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds. VOC emissions are harmful to health and the environment in large quantities, both during painting and afterwards.

Milieu paints are manufactured using an innovative method where, instead of adding preservatives, the paint is preserved by using a precise formula and a natural preservation process. Thanks to this method, the VOC content of our paints is exceptionally low, almost zero. Typically, a large part of the VOC emissions from paints comes from preservatives, which are often found, for example, in paints that use oil as a binder. No preservatives have been used in Milieu paints.

Thanks to the innovative method that is used when manufacturing Milieu paint, the VOC content in our paints is exceptionally low, almost zero.

The VOC content of Milieu paints is less than 1 g/l, well below the EU's lowest Low VOC limit of 30 g/l. In the US, the emission classification is more stringent and, in addition to the Low VOC category, the Zero VOC category is also used, where emissions must be below 5 g/l. Milieu paint is an emission-free Zero VOC paint.
